Project summary
In 1996, Antrim underwent environmental improvement work to the town centre, which encompassed trees, street furniture, signage and a riverside boardwalk. This was based on the Antrim Area Plan 1984 – 2001 which outlined the need for environmental improvement works to the town centre. In preparation for the new Area Masterplan a number of major survey's and urban planning exercises were commissioned by the Department of Social Development (DSD). These confirmed the need and support for environmental improvement works within Antrim town centre. The proposed public realm improvements are one part of the Council's wider development aspirations for Antrim. This project used high quality design, materials and public art to create a sense of place and preserve the unique identity of Antrim. This will make the town centre more accessible, more inclusive and assist with vibrancy through increased opportunities to use the public realm. |
Certificates for the Schemes' Very Good Award were presented by CEEQUAL’s Operations Director Philip Charles to Barney McEldowney, Contracts Manager at BSG Civil Engineering (Contractor) and Andrew McKeown, Project Officer from Capital Development, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council (Client). The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, was also in attendance. |
